Allow the DIP switch to configure Dual Line Encoder Ports on V4 XL202CL, XL206CL, XL212CL and XL270CL controllers.
Years ago when we ran out of space in the V2 XL200 code we disabled all of the QC100L and related code with a Compile Time Switch. Work is being completed on a new version and this code needed to be enabled in a test build. Some of the code no longer compiled or caused compiler warnings so all of these issues were fixed. None of the edits should impact production code.
All of the triggers based off of changes in the current item, like Order Change, Item Change, PCode change ... etc Trigger prior to any production occuring on the next item or order. Setting the trigger to prevent run, in order to force the data entry, prevented the item they wanted measured, to be ran.
Several customers have asked to be able to Halt the line after the first piece of an Order, PCode change, Material Change ... etc. This will allow them to force an operator to measure and report characteristics of the first part produced, where as the currently the Trigger occurs and the line halts on the last part.
With the Exception of the Time Based, Part Based and Footage Based Triggers, all triggers now have a Part delay that defaults to zero for current operation. If set to a non-zero value, the trigger be delayed by the specified number of parts.
If a customer wants the last part of a PCode run measured they can configure the trigger delay to zero parts and the halt after to zero parts. If the customer wants the first part of a PCode run to be measured they can configure the trigger delay to 1 part and the halt after to zero parts.
There was a bug with Delay After Shear when any rotary style shear was configured to Stitch Parts by omitting shears.
The Delay After Shear occurred but it occurred just before the cuts instead of after. On a pre-cut roll-former this resulted in the delay occurring while uncut material was captured by the roll-former instead of just after the material was cut.
This was caused by the Delay After Shear state machine that is unique to Rotary style shears. The state machine delay is initialized by the shear cycle that the delay is supposed to occur after, however, the actual delay is started and completed by calling the state machine during the next shear cycle.
The state machine was not being called by the code that simulated the omitted shears. This resulted in the actual delay being processed and started by the next actual shear cycle just after the last omitted shear was done being processed.
Ams has created its own "Generic" printer communication protocol and a Part Print Driver that utilizes it. In the past, AMS has written a driver for nearly every printer that a printer salesmen convinces customers that they can't live without. We have now written a protocol that printer manufacturers can use to integrate printers if they desire to sell printers to our customers. The manufacturer can either modify their printer to use our driver or they or the customer can pay a third party integrator to do it for them.
The code was written in such a way that a driver for bundle ticket printers can also easily be written using the same protocol.
This new driver supports up to nine print streams. Provided that the print system supports it, each of the print streams is able to contain a unique print message. In order to support multiple print streams the printer system must be controlled by a single encoder and print trigger. The print system must accept the streams for all printers, manage the print trigger and distribute the message to the appropriate printer. Similar to tools in the XL controller, the print system must know where each print head is and adjust where it prints so that the single trigger will be able to accurately print information on the part at the correct location. Contained within the print stream are the X coordinates, in inches, referenced from the trigger location where each piece of information is to be printed.
Due to the time constraints of when this driver is required, Asynchronous printing is not currently supported by this driver.
The only printer so far that supports this new driver is the Matthews MPERIA system. A Lua script is used to convert the Ams Generic protocol to the XML protocol that the MPERIA system uses internally. The Lua MPERIA Generic Driver Script is checked into source control with the AMS Generic Driver. How the script is distributed and instructions for installing the script are yet to be deteremined and generated.
Any Open Loop Controller that has PLC integration will now have the Uncut Length Parameter and PLC output enabled.
The allowed field size for coil numbers in the XL200 controller has increased from 16 to 30. To utilize the full character size requires a corresponding update to Eclipse.
Adding safeguards to use an new controller with an old Eclipse and prevent data entry errors could prove to be annoying and also not be bullet proof. We are expecting that users who obtain this update and are using an Eclipse that does not support the extra characters will continue to use their existing data entry practices. We also consider the likely hood of an existing user entering more characters than an old Eclipse can handle to be very slim.
Eclipse has the ability to disable most, if not all, of the Order and Pattern modification features. An additional feature has been added to this configuration to further improve the elimination of invalid material usage.
When configured, jogging material forward and manual shears are prevented under the following conditions when material is detected in the machine:
- If no coil is loaded as the current coil.
- The coil is invalid for the current order.
- There are no incomplete orders.
The purpose of these limitations are to force coil validation sooner to prevent completely threading an entire roll former full of material that is invalid for the current order. A sheet detect sensor should be installed as close to the beginning of the roll former as possible.
In addition, it can be used to prevent theft during off hours. Assuming user data entry of orders is also prevented, recalling all of the orders will prevent an unscrupulous operator from jogging material through the machine and manually cutting it off.

The XL will now generate a new production record, Type 2, Reason V, to request a coil validation of the current coil. This production record will be generated anytime the controller detects that the coil is not valid for the current order. However, it will only create the production record if the version of eclipse it is speaking with can support it.
A rotional style die do not have press complete inputs and should not report this error. However, the change (SCN 2787) to support Auto Crop on Continuos Press Controllers broke the Manual Punch operation for Rotational Style Dies.
One customer is having issues with controller resets and other issues that all seem to be related to Bundle Ticket printing. These issues have not been duplicable here at AMS but code reviews have revealed two issues that may play into the sequence required for duplication.
Several of the Bundle Ticket Print drivers were using an insert string function without checking that the size of the string may be overflowed. It is not certain that this was actually happening but it was fixed to eliminate it as a possibility.
The common bundle ticket parsing code has a pointer variable that was left dangling and could under unknown sequence of events cause memory corruption. This was also fixed to eliminate it as a possibility in the customers issues.
After Tool Configuration edits, the XL code was not clearing the Tool Configuration chain status bit to indicate that the chain needed backed up.
This change also requires a corresponding Eclipse release as Eclipse was not backing up or restoring this chain until now.
